FLAC and lossless playback on iPhone
MiniJack plays FLAC and ALAC as they are, from files on the device or straight from your server. There's nothing to convert and no other library to import into.
Formats
- Lossless: FLAC, ALAC, WAV.
- Lossy: MP3, AAC, Ogg Opus.
FLAC tags and embedded covers are read by MiniJack's own reader, so they work the same on iOS 15 as on the latest iOS. Ogg Vorbis files on the device aren't played; from a server, MiniJack asks for them as MP3.
ReplayGain
Albums mastered at different levels can play at one loudness. MiniJack reads track and album gain from file tags and from servers that send it (OpenSubsonic). Choose Track, Album or Auto, which uses album gain when an album plays in order. A preamp sets the overall level, and a clipping guard keeps loud tracks from distorting. Gapless joins and crossfades are unchanged with ReplayGain on.
Original quality or a limit
By default MiniJack streams and downloads the original file. On a slow connection you can set a bitrate limit, separately for Wi-Fi and for cellular, and the server transcodes. A capped song starts before the whole transcode has arrived.
